What to know...
Before Waxing
- Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate the area 24-48 hours before waxing to remove dead skill cells and prevent ingrown hairs
- Avoid sun exposure: Stay out of the sun and avoid tanning beds for 24-48 hours before waxing
- Stop using harsh products: Avoid using products containing retinol, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid for 24-48 hours before waxing.
- Shower or bathe: Take a warm shower or bath to open up the pores and make waxing easier.
- Grow hair to an appropriate length: Hair should be about 1/4 inch long for optimal waxing results.
After Waxing
- Apply a soothing lotion: Apply a fragrance-free, aloe vera-based lotion or cream to calm and hydrate the skin.
- Avoid heat and sun exposure: Stay out of the sun and avoid hot showers or baths for 24-48 hours after waxing.
- Exfoliate gently: After 24-48 hours, start gently exfoliating the area 2-3 times a week to prevent ingrown hairs.
- Moisturize regularly: Keep the area moisturized to prevent dryness and irritation.
- Avoid tight clothing: Wear loose-fitting clothing that won't rub against the waxed area.
- Avoid swimming or sweating: Stay out of pools, hot tubs, and avoid strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours after waxing.
- Use ingrown hair treatment products: If necessary, use ingrown hair treatment products to prevent and treat ingrown hairs.
